Use of monensin on beef cattle grazing low-quality forages

Supplementation is one of the greatest costs in cow-calf operations in the southeastern USA. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the efficiency of supplementation for better economic return. Monensin is a feed additive used to enhance animal performance and/or feed conversation in ruminants. However, there are limited information about the effects of monensin on beef cattle grazing warm-season grasses with limited supplementation. Here you will learn about some current information on the use of monensin on beef cattle supplementation in Florida. The content shared in this presentation covers Dr. Joao Vendramini's April Ona Report, published in the April 2016 issue of the Florida Cattleman & Livestock Journal.
